Policies

Both documents must be type written and mailed to the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands. The application for marriage license must be notarized. No physical examination or blood test is required.

Application for Marriage License:

  • Both you and your fiancé must fill out this form in its ENTIRETY.
  • Under "Permanent Residence" and "Usual Residence", please provide your complete physical address with zip code.
  • Please do not use any abbreviations (abbreviations for states are NOT accepted).
  • Previous marital status refers to that of the individuals applying for a license.
  • This form must be signed by each of you.
  • The lines "License issued this...", "Filed this..." and "By Deputy Clerk" are to be left blank.

License and Certification of Marriage:

  • Both you and your fiancé must fill out lines 1-16 and 27-30.
  • Please note on lines 4a and 11a the CITY AND STATE are required (do not abbreviate).
  • Please note on lines 4b and 11b the month must be spelled out.
  • Please TYPE or PRINT LEGIBLY and do not use any abbreviations.
  • The COMPLETE street address, city and ZIP CODE are required on lines 3a and 10a.
  • This form must be signed by each of you.

If either person is divorced, please include a CERTIFIED copy of the divorce decree. This must be the complete decree and must have a RAISED SEAL and a judge's signature. (This can be obtained by contacting the court that issued the divorce). Please Note: the decree must be a CERTIFIED copy (not notarized) with a raised court seal.

If either one is widowed please include a CERTIFIED copy of the death certificate.

The court must receive the application at least eight (8) business days before the wedding. Please include a note that indicates that you will be married at Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Beach Marriott Resort and the approximate date you will pick up the license, which is mandatory for the bride and groom to do.

Prior to the ceremony the bride and groom must pick up the license at the court. If you are picking up your license on a Sunday or a holiday you need to make arrangements with the court prior to your arrival (There is an additional license fee on Sunday and holidays).

Court Hours: Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm
Saturday 10am - Noon (BY APPOINTMENT ONLY)
Sundays and Holidays 9:30am - 10:30am (BY APPOINTMENT ONLY) ATLANTIC STANDARD TIME ZONE

The court charges a fee for the license. A money order for $100.00, made out to the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, must be enclosed with the application. The difference can be paid when the license is picked up.

Useful Info:

Send all the completed information by Certified mail, Express mail or Federal Express. (a traceable mail route) and call the court to make sure they received the information.

When you go to pick up your license (before the wedding) request two or three certified copies ($2 each) to be mailed to you directly after the ceremony.
